Barks and Recreation Policies
Please be sure to book your visits or long-term care with Christie via email or phone. For long-term care and pet sitting, we contact you the week prior to discuss any last minute requests and to verify the times and days that you will be away. If you don't hear from us, please never hesitate to contact Christie with any questions or concerns. She will return your call within 24 hours. If we expect to be unavailable for pet sitting for holidays or any other signficant period of time, we will do our best to inform you of this well in advance to aid in your planning. Thank you for your understanding.

Same-day cancellations will be charged a $10 fee. We require a full 14 days notice of cancellation for holiday visits and long-term care. Barks and Recreation is a professional pet sitter, and have made the job we love into a career. We pride ourselves on the services we provide while caring for your pets and your home while you’re away. That is why our Policies and Procedures make clear that Barks and Recreation Pet Services, LLC does not believe in job sharing (shared responsibility) over the pets or house with any other parties. This includes housekeepers, handymen, or even friends. We feel strongly about this policy because it minimizes confusion; we cannot vouch or be responsible for treatment of the pets or the home given by a third party when we are either present or in between pet sits. It is possible that pets can be overfed, given extra medication, etc. due to a lack of communication or understanding. As a professional pet sitter, we take this responsibility very seriously and let our service speak for us.
Severe or Extreme Weather
During severe weather, your walker will make every effort to balance performing services with the general safety and well being of dog and walker alike. Should a service need to be shortened due to severe weather, the walker will note this and make up the time at a later date.
Severe weather includes:
- Thunder storms
- Heavy rain
- Temperatures over 90 degrees or below 19 degrees
Same-day cancellation due to extreme weather conditions may be made at no fee. Barks and Recreation also makes every effort to follow the requests of the local and state authorities.
Extreme weather includes:
- Snowstorm causing school cancellations
- Severe flooding
- Any weather causing a state of emergency
For long-term care we highly recommend using a neighbor as an emergency contact.
